| Bad Axe's Bob Gibson was in rare form |
This was the set of Michael Walter's dreams, as his Bad Axe Lumberjacks went 9-1. Clearly spurred on by Gibson's historic outing, the Lumberjacks have now put some separation between themselves and the 3rd place Verona Ridge Roadrunners and even moved to within 1.5 games of perennial first place team Yukon. In the American League, Backwoods and Vermont are starting to pull away from the pack, both going 7-3 and now having 6 games between the Socialists and 3rd place Aliquippa.
Gibson has earned the Player of the Block Award with two complete game wins, only allowing 6 hits and 1 run through 18 innings. Vermont's 3B Eddie Mathews now has the most dominant hitting line for a 10 game set, hitting .441, clubbing 8 HRs, and driving in 17 runs! Elsewhere, Babe Ruth continued to lead all batters in homers, hitting 5 more to make his season total 39! Aliquippa's Mike Schmidt hit .429 lately, while Miser 2B Rogers Hornsby hit. 345. Yukon's Carl Hubbell added two more complete game wins to his resume.
