Two players stood above the rest this set, so please congratulate Backwoods CF Oscar Charleston (.414, 5 HRs, 9 RBIs) and Aliquppa's Duke "The Duke of Flatbush" Snider (.417, 5 HRs, 10 RBIs) for being names Players of the Block for this set of games. Other candidates under consideration were Yukon's Carl Hubbell (3 wins) and Aliquippa's Willie Mays (.375, 5 HRs)
Have really enjoyed watching how the Negro Leaguers perform in this league, finally getting a chance to compete against their Hall of Fame peers. Oscar Charleston is a great example. Get a load of this quote from Buck O'Neill - “Charlie (Charleston) was a tremendous left-handed hitter who could also bunt, steal a hundred bases a year, and cover center field as well as anyone before him or since…he was like Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth and Tris Speaker rolled into one". That may be a bit of hyperbole, but no less an authority than Bill James rates him as the 4th best player EVER! Click here to read more about this great player on the Hall of Fame's website.
