Days 121-130: Socialists run rampant in the AL, Yukon reclaims first place in the NL

Bernie Sanders has his Vermont Socialists running on all cylinders as they went 9-1 recently and are now enjoying a comfortable 6 game lead in the once-tightly-grouped American League.  The Backwoods Bastards are continuing to find ways to win despite having the second worst run differential in the league (they have scored 58 runs less than they have given up!).  The rest of the league has crumbled, as Pottersville, Aliquippa, and Mar-a-Lago are all now 15 games back.

Yukon went 6-4 but Bad Axe slipped to 4-6, so the Polar Bears are again enjoying a lead in the National.  Verona Ridge remains within striking distance of the Lumberjacks, 4.5 games out of a playoff spot.

Babe Ruth and Eddie Mathews continue to power Vermont, ranking #1 and #2 in the Home Run race with 43 and 40 respectively.  Misogynist CF Ty Cobb continues to hold off Verona's Tris Speaker for the Batting Title, leading at .373 to .368 for Tris.  Smokey Joe Williams has 17 wins, but Mickey Welch (MAR), Christy Mathewson (YUK), and Carl Hubbell (YUK) are right behind him with 16.  Ty Cobb has opened up a 46-40 lead over fellow Misogynist Eddie Collins for the Stolen Base title.
The Backwoods Big Unit, Randy Johnson, is in firm control of the K Crown, with 234 strikeouts, 41 ahead of Windy City's Nolan Ryan.

Big Josh Gibson slugging
six home runs this set!

The very intimidating delivery
of Mar-a-Lago's Mickey Welch

Josh Gibson of Pohdunkville is our Player of the Block, as the burly catcher went 17 for 39, hitting .436, with 6 HRs and 12 RBIs. Mar-a-Lago Mickey Welch was the best pitcher of the Block, with 2 wins, 18 innings pitched, and only 4 earned runs and 11 hits allowed.  Honorable mention to Pohdunkville's Harmon Killebrew (.324, 6 HRs, 12 RBIs).

WHAM!  Another homer!  Harmon Killebrew goes deep again!

As always, some Hall of Famers are not faring as well.  Brooks Robinson of Potterville is hitting .071, just 2 hits in 28 at bats.  Rollie Fingers of Pohdunkville was blasted in 10 horrible innings, allowing 16 runs and 21 hits.

Day 121:  Windy City holds off a Verona Ridge rally in the 9th to win 9-8, Al Kaline had 4 hits and 3 RBIs for the Doobies.  Stan Covelski of Bad Axe shuts out Yukon on just 5 hits, 3-0 win for the Lumberjacks Pohdunkville beat the Beavers 8-2, with Satchel Paige only allowing 4 hits and the Pounders getting four homers (Harmon Killebrew, Josh Gibson, Frank Thomas, and Arky Vaughan).  Mar-a-Lago romped over Backwoods 14-6.  A very full box score for Mar-a-Lago as all players had at least one hit, and every player either scored a run or drove in one.  Vermont's Bob Lemon outdueled Pottersville's Catfish Hunter in a 4-2 Socialist win.

Day 122:  Lefty Grove of Pohdunkville blanks Bad Axe on just two hits.  Drama in Vermont as the Socialists get a walk-off, 10th inning single from Eddie Mathews.  Hank Aaron, very quiet in this replay so far, had 2 hits and 3 RBIs to lift Backwoods over Verona Ridge 8-4.  Yukon rolled over the Doobies 10-1, Turkey Stearnes and Jud Wilson homering.  Misers starter Jim Palmer limited Mar-a-Lago to just 1 run and Zack Wheat drove in 2, Pottersville wins it 3-1.

Day 123:  Vermont wins fifth in a row, 4-3 over Aliquippa.  The Sultan of Swat belted a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th.  This was the Babe's 40th of the season!  Mar-a-Lago stomped Pottersville 8-2.  Willie "Stretch" McCovey's three-run homer keyed a SEVEN run 9th inning for Bad Axe as they overtook Pohdunkville 10-7.  Verona Ridge's Amos Rusie limited Backwoods to just one run and Ryan Sandberg added three hits, two runs, and four RBIs for an 8-2 Misogynist victory.  George Sisler's big day (3-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs) keyed an 8-3 Yukon win over Windy City.

Day 124:  Vermont continues to win, up to six in a row now, as Old Hoss Radbourn stars in a 6-2 win over the Beavers.  Aliquippa is now mired in a seven game losing streak now.  Bad Axe destroys the Pounders 12-1, Smokey Joe Williams collects his 17th win and Lou Gehrig cracks two homers.  Mar-a-Lago's Mickey Welch, an underrated hurler putting together a nice season, shuts out the Misers in a 2-0 game.  Yukon again brings the lumber destroying the Doobies 13-2, another monster game for the sizzling George Sisler (3-6, HR, 2 runs, 5 RBIs) .  Bill Terry's two hits pushed Verona Ridge past Backwoods 3-2.

Day 125:  Yukon puts an end to Bernie Sanders fun, stopping the Socialists 11-4.  Martin Dihigo had 4 hits, including a two-run homer.  Aliquippa gets back on track, beating Bad Axe 4-2 and getting HRs from Frank Robinson and Mike Schmidt.   Bad Axe drops out of their first place tie with this loss.  Pohdunkville's Juan Marichal tosses a fine 6-hi shutout of Mar-a:Lago, and Nap Lajoie provides the offense with three hits.  Backwoods slugger Mule Suttles scores twice and knocks in three in an 8-5 win over Windy City.  The Misers get a combined five RBIs from Rogers Hornsby and Ted Williams to get past Verona Ridge 6-2.

Day 126:  Aliquippa puts up a four spot on six hits in the top of the 9th to topple Bad Axe 7-5. The Bastards rock the Doobies 15-6, Oscar Charleston has 4 hits, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs.  Pohdunkville's Josh Gibson has 4 hits to back Satchel Paige and give the Pounders the 7-4 win over Mar-a-Lago.  Vermont's Johnny "Big Cat" Mize hits a walk-off single to bring home Eddie Mathews, 4-3 Vermont over Yukon.  More late inning excitement as Verona Ridge puts up 5 in to the top of the 9th to roll 7-2 over the Misers.

Day 127:  Bad Axe moves back into a first place tie with Yukon by defeating Aliquippa 6-1, another fine outing from Bob Gibson.  Windy City got 2 HRs from Carlton Fisk and a three-hitter from Nolan Ryan to top the Bastards 9-1.  The Pounder's Burleigh Grimes limited the Misogynists to just one run in a 4-1 game.  Vermont wins again, 6-4 over Yukon, Tim Keefe gets his 11th win.  The Misers of Potterville hold on for a 4-3 win against Verona Ridge, Pop Lloyd, Mel Ott and Hack Wilson each homer.

Day 128:  Windy City gets a shutout from Big Ed Walsh and Ernie Banks says "Let's hit two!".  Homers, that is, Doobies take a 7-0 win over Backwoods.  Speaking of catch phrases, Willie Mays says "Say Hey" with 4 hits to help Aliquippa edge Bad Axe 6-5.  Pohdunkville tops Mar-a-Lago in an 11-9 slugfest, Josh Gibson doing most of the damage with a homer, two other hits, and 3 RBIs.  The seemingly unstoppable Vermont Socialists use a strong start from Bob Lemon (only 3 hits allowed) to beat Yukon 4-1.  An even bigger sluggest was held in Pottersville as Verona (14 runs, 16 hits) edged (Pottersville (12 runs, 13 hits).  Verona Ridge had a NINE run 5th inning!  All Roadrunners had at least one hit.

Day 129:  Yukon gets back in first place by getting by the Pounders 7-5,  Jesse Burkett had 4 hits.  Meanwhile, Bad Axe fell to Windy City 10-6.  Another big day from Doobie catcher Carlton Fisk who doubled, tripled, and homered.  Vermont beats Pottersville 5-1, Fred Clarke contributing three hits to the Socialists cause.   Verona Ridge's closer extraordinaire, Goose Gossage, put out another fire and helped the Roadrunners earn a 6-5 win over Mar-a-Lago.  There was a (relatively) modern-day pitching duel between Backwoods Randy Johnson and Aliquippa's Pedro Martinez. Backwoods came out on top 2-1, when Oscar Charleston cracked a two-run homer off of Pedro.

Day 130:  Big day for the Babe, he hits two homers and drives in six to put the Socialists over the Misers 9-7.  Red Faber tosses a shutout for Windy City, limiting the Lumberjacks to just seven hits.  Yukon had an offensive explosion, erupting for 18 runs and 22 hits against the Pounders.  Jud Wilson hit three homers and drove in six.  Interestingly, every Polar Bear had at least TWO hits!  Ken Griffey Jr. seems to be rounding into form lately, he homered and drove in four for Mar-a-Lago, who edged Verona Ridge 5-4.  Backwoods and Aliquippa were tied at 4 entering the top of the 9th, but the Bastards put together four hits to generate three runs, giving them a 7-4 win.

Dave Winfield, styling in his pimped out
Padre uniform,  hits a two-run homer that
caps a great comeback for Verona Ridge
